Sunday June 25th - Gold Coast
Solid Day
Started race one on poll. Finished 6th
Race 2 - started 10th finished 6th
Race 3 - started 7th finished 7th
Race 4 - started 7th finished 7th
A really solid day of racing. As is typical of the Gold
Coast, it is a high stress day and all the fast rookies
race. To start and finish all races is a great
achievement for Josh.
Timmy raced too and went really well. He may need to be
added to the PW driving team. He hasn't spent much time
in his kart lately but finished no worse that 3rd in a
big field of really competitive men, who race all the
time. He is very smooth and this probably sounds like
his school report card but "imagine how good he could be
if he really applied himself". I might get into trouble
for saying this - but sometimes you have to live
dangerously.
Saturday and Sunday June 10th -
Ipswich Brads turn
Brad had some misgiven idea that he could race as a team
member with Tim and Carl in a 7 hour endurance race in
Ipswich for Performance Wholesale. I had some serious
concerns though - but too bad - hey!
Saturday was raining, no kart arrived at the track for them
til 2pm and he didn't even get a drive in the kart he was to
spend half the next day in. Organisation was not of our
usual standard, tools in the mud, no parts, crappy tyres
etc. . . . . but lets not be picky.
Sunday and the weather is good. Each of the three drivers
did 45 minute stints and they managed to finish the day, not
needing the ambulance and still smiling. They won 1st c
grader team for the day and bought home the only trophy for
the 3 Lusty Karts. They were pretty pleased with themselves.
I feel like i live at race tracks - now and only return to a
clean home to shower and wash.
We were really proud of Brad for having a go and doing a
great job. He moved very little over the next 2 days - pain
in his body, pain to live with.
Sunday 4th June - Warwick Bloody
Freezing - Minus 1 at 7am
Big field of racers and lots of good rookies so not a huge
expectation for the day.
1st race - started 3rd finished 5th
2nd race - started 8th finished 6th
3rd race - started 5th finished 4th
4th race - started 4th finished 5th.
I am noticing that we are starting and finishing a lot more
racers than in the beginning.
A nice surprise was that because of a lot solid racing for
the day, Josh finished first c grader and got another
trophy. Down side of that was that we had to stay at the
track for presentations and didn't leave for home til 6pm.
Long Long day and late night. Brad went to work Monday,(
like he wouldn't anyway ) but Josh and I just couldnt do it
and stayed in bed til 10 am.
Sunday May 21 - Toowoomba What a Day
Josh started 2nd and finished 2nd. What I hear you say, yep
- he stayed in 2nd place and fought for the lead many times.
Brad and I needed oxygen after that race.
Race 2 Started 3rd - DNF (did not finish) Dicing for the
lead again, he lunged at the last corner of the last lap and
ended up in the paddock. How exciting though. He was really
upset but we reminded him "If you never have a go, you will
always end up second".
Race 3. started 3rd, finished 2nd. Spent all race changing
the lead with Jarrod Lane who is a local boy and wins all
the time. Jarrod had this corner just right for taking back
the lead and every lap he would get back past Josh on this
corner. At this stage, Josh is coming 2nd overall for the
day, forget the c graders and the P Platers, he is overall
second. Breathe Breathe Breathe.
Race 4. Brad and I can't even talk to each other and have
gone to our seperate corners. Josh is a bundle of nerbs. . .
. .
Started 3rd and finished -
Brad and I were beside ourselves, Josh was blown away by all
the fuss and congratulations. By far - it was the most
exciting class of racing for the day because these two boys
were at each other all day.
He finsihed 2nd overall for the day and bought home a big
trophy for his efforts.
At the presentations. He thanked Performance Wholesale and
Mum & Dad and everybody else.
Sunday May 28 - Gold Coast What a
Come Down
Josh started the day in a huge field of very competitive
rookies in 10th place, He was bolstered by his confident
winn in Toowoomba and went for a huge dive in the first
corner and came to a spectatular crashing halt- and that was
that. . . hard lessons these ones. . . on the up though -
the professional photographer caught the accident on camera
and the photos may just end up in a magazine - for all the
wrong reasons though. I will send them through seperately.
Race 2 - started 5th finished 10th - just finishing at the
Gold Coast is huge.
Race 3 - started 12th finished 9th - He was really not happy
with this return to earth, but he kept trying and we love
that about him.
Race 4 - started 12th finished 7th - Good Solid Day at a
really hard track with all the top guns.
