Top Four Result For Bryan Mann In Qld Sprintcar Title
7/05/2010 7:51:01 AM - PWM Media

Bryan Mann, driving for the Performance Wholesale Motorsport team based in Brisbane, finished fourth in the East Coast Pipelines Qld Sprintcar Title at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway this past weekend.

It was a solid return to the Archerfield raceway for Mann after the team's normally pristine #16 Capalaba Wreckers/Qld Speedway Spares J&J Sprintcar was extensively damaged during the running of the Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout event at Easter. On that occasion, a bent side panel after hitting the cushion hard virtually locked the accelerator pedal down and Mann was subsequently a passenger as the #16 J&J slammed into the turn three wall at full throttle during the Tri-City Feature race that night. Although he was able to walk unassisted from the crash, it has kept Bryan out of the car over the past month.

"Yeah, that one hurt us" explained Mann in reference to that crash, "It was really just a matter of trying to get the car turned along the fence and hanging on once I realised I couldn't get it shut down in time. But Drew (Gessner, PWM Crew Chief) and the boys have worked hard to get us back out on the track and a couple of rainouts here in Brisbane have given us a bit of extra time to get things sorted."

"It was good to get back in the car at Archerfield on the weekend, we might not have been the strongest we've ever been there but we plugged away at it and came on pretty good towards the end of the Championship Final, going from seventh to fourth in the final few laps of the race."

Mann may be selling his results a little short though, given he was racing against some of the best racers in the country in Robbie Farr, Danny Reidy and James McFadden as well as all of Qld's top drivers like Todd Wanless, Andrew Scheuerle, Cameron Gessner, Darrell Hodges, Peter Lack, Peter Thorley and Richard Morgan. Certainly a tough field to go up against in the tight confines of the Archerfield raceway.

It was a tradesman-like effort from Bryan and the team both nights of the Title event, timing in eighth quick in the field of thirty-six before finishing fourth, sixth and seventh in his Friday night Heat races to qualify for the Preliminary Feature in which he finished ninth.

A third place finish in his fourth and final qualifying Heat race on night two of the Title helped Bryan into the B-Dash where he finished fourth to start the thirty-five lap Championship event from the outside of the fifth row. Bryan battled for position for much of the race with Pete Thorley and Richard Morgan, swapping places with these two drivers on a number of occasions until he made his last move forward over the final laps to finish in fourth position, just one spot short of a podium result.

The next event on the Performance Wholesale Motorsports team schedule is the Australian Sprintcar Title in Darwin at the end of May. The team competed in the Chariots Of Thunder events in Darwin earlier in the season, finishing sixth and seventh in the two A-Mains they raced in, and look forward to returning to Darwin for the National Title and the renowned hospitality of the Northern Territory people.
