Mann Slips To Sixth In World Series Standings But Only A Point In It
12/01/2010 6:51:54 PM - PWM Media
After a highly competitive four nights of racing in Qld during the past week, nights that included two Rounds of the 2009/10 Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Championship, Bryan Mann has slipped to sixth in the Series standings but remains upbeat about what lies ahead as the Championship moves into its final few Rounds.
American Jason Johnson, the winner of three Rounds of the Series so far this season and the East Coast Pipelines Speedweek Champion, has edged Bryan out of the top five by a solitary point following Sunday night's event at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba. Johnson moved to fifth place in the points standings by finishing fourth behind Robbie Farr, Max Dumesny and Brooke Tatnell in Toowoomba, and Bryan could do little but watch the points gap erode from the infield following an incident that knocked him out of the Feature race early.
It was both a morale boosting and morale sapping week for the Performance Wholesale Motorsport team, with Bryan sitting high in the points on night one of the Titan Garages Australian Sprintcar Open only for the driveline to break in the #16 Capalaba Wreckers/Qld Speedway Spares J&J early in the twenty-lap Preliminary Feature. Likewise, Bryan qualified for the thirty-five lap Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup last Wednesday night only for a deflating tyre to rob him of a top ten finish in that event.
"Yeah, you're right there, we've certainly felt a few different emotions at the race track the last few days" is how Bryan summed up the races in Brisbane and Toowoomba.
"We got together with Brent Kaeding in the Feature on Wednesday night and rode up over his front wing and thought we had a tyre going down after that so I pulled in. With a lot of cars on the track, everyone going pretty quick and with a top and a bottom you could run on I really didn't want to get in the way and risk messing up someone else's race when I started to feel the tyre going."
"We qualified seventh for Friday night's Preliminary which we were pretty happy with especially given the quality and size of the field that was in Brisbane for the Open, but we dropped the driveline out of the car on the first lap and then Murcy (Dave Murcott) got into the back of us when we slowed. Dave really had nowhere to go I 'spose and luckily he was able to get going again after that, but it really hurt us in the points and we ended up in the B on Saturday night and missed the transfer by one position."
"Sunday night the car got around on me coming off near the wall in the Feature and a couple of guys had nowhere to go but into the front of us. It's damaged the front of the chassis so we've got some extra work ahead of us to get it fixed before the next race in Sydney."
"We've been there-abouts in qualifying and the Heats and making most of the shows but the results just haven't really come our way the last few races. It's hard for everyone when there's forty cars or so at these races, a couple of points either way during the night means you're either in the show or doing it tough trying to come out of the B-Main. It's getting to be a bit of a traffic jam in the Series points again as well so we just need to re-group a little and go back out and give it our best shot. We'll learn from it and have another go at Parramatta this weekend."
There's little rest for Sprintcar teams out on the road and the Performance Wholesale Motorsport doesn't have much in the way of a break over the next month or so with the final four Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars events in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. Mixed in with those races is the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, Kings Challenge, King Of Wings and Krikke Boys races before the team heads back home to Qld to continue their challenge for the Qld Speedway Spares Series title.
