Mann Holds Onto Top Five In Points Standings
30/12/2009 10:51:45 AM - PWM Media

Six Rounds into the 2009/10 Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Championship and Qld racer Bryan Mann continues to hold onto fifth place in the overall standings, albeit only by a slim two point margin as he heads into the third night of the East Coast Pipelines Speedweek portion of the Series at Avalon Raceway this evening.

A flat right rear tyre during the A-Main at Borderline Speedway in Mt Gambier on Monday night hindered Bryan's points haul from the most recent Round of the Series, although Bryan and the team remain upbeat about their current run in the #16 Capalaba Wreckers/Qld Speedway Spares J&J.

"We basically just cut a tyre down heading into turn one during the Feature" is how Bryan explained what happened at The Mount.

"The points format on the night has been brutal with so many cars and the extra Heat races and although we timed in fourteenth quick and moved forward pretty good in our Heats we still ended up in the B-Main. We won that, started from fifteen in the Feature, passed a few cars and then had to spin the car to miss an incident that happened up front a few laps in. Down the back again and we had moved up to about tenth or so when we cut the tyre."

"It's disappointing because we had a good run going and had passed some really good cars during the race but at the same time we're really happy with how we've been going the last few nights. We're achieving a few of the goals we set ourselves for this season, the car's good, motors are good and we're enjoying ourselves and liking what we're doing. All good really."

Despite recording a DNF at Mt Gambier, the first Series Feature race he has failed to finish inside the top ten, Bryan remains in fifth place in the standings as the Championship nears the halfway point but the margin to sixth place driver Grant Anderson has narrowed.

"Yeah there's only a couple of points between Grant and I now and James (McFadden) has edged closer to us both as well. We'll just keep trying to be consistent and make A-Mains and let the points take care of themselves. There's a long way to go, this has to be the toughest Championship for a number of years and there's some even harder races coming up in the next few weeks so we'll keep working hard to get the best results we can and see where it all ends up."

Just two Rounds of Speedweek remain before the team return home to Qld next week for the Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup at Brisbane International Speedway on January 6, followed by Round 9 of the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcar Championship to be held in conjunction with the Titan Garages Australian Sprintcar Open on January 8 and 9 in Brisbane. Round 10 of the Series will be held at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba on January 10.
